Background to the establishment of NDA
- 1986 – Adhoc Committee constituted to develop a National Drug Policy (NDP). Draft Paper prepared and accepted by the Ministry of Health.
- 1988 – Health Review Commission formed to incorporate the NDP into the National Health Policy report.
- 1991 – Initial discussions on setting up of the National Drug Authority and National Medical Stores (NMS).
- 1993 – National Drug Policy/Authority and NMS Statutes were passed by the then parliament National Resistance Council and became Law after the President's assertion to the statutes.
- 1994 – National Drug Authority and National Medical Stores were inaugurated as implementing bodies of the Policy.
